About

Founded in 1824 in Ílhavo, Vista Alegre is one of Portugal’s oldest and most iconic porcelain manufacturers. What began as a small industrial project grew into a globally recognised name in ceramics and Portuguese design.

The Vista Alegre Museum is housed in the original factory complex and tells the story of the brand through centuries of porcelain, from early pieces to contemporary designs. You can also see the historic Capela da Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, built by the factory’s founder, and the former workers’ village surrounding it.

The factory is still operating today, making the visit particularly interesting: this isn't just a museum about an old brand, porcelain is still being produced here. Depending on the day, you can see artisans painting, decorating and finishing pieces by hand.
